Principal Stacey Hill-Simmons
When Stacey Hill-Simmons joined the Hoffman School family during the 2001-02 school year, the school was in Academic Emergency. The very next year, we moved up to Academic Watch. We then climbed to Continuous Improvement in 2003-04. By the year 2008, we earned the designation of an Effective School.
Mrs. Hill-Simmons is a visionary. She has implemented several school-wide initiatives to increase academic achievement such as Mini Lab, Math Lab, mock assessments, flexible groupings and small group tutoring during the school day. All these initiatives are implemented early in the school year. The catalyst behind these initiatives is the highly interactive meetings led by our principal. Weekly Administrative Meetings with the lead teacher, grade level teachers and intervention specialists are keys to getting a pulse for the academic progress of individual students and student groups. During these meetings, Mrs. Hill-Simmons and the teachers review current test data and strategically plan how to meet the instructional needs of each group of students.
Not only does she care about the academic success of her own students, but as a Lead Principal and Mentor, Mrs. Hill-Simmons has an open door policy when it comes to sharing proven strategies and helps with other educators. Principals from inside and outside the districts have come to glean from her Administrative Meetings, Team Meetings and ILT Meetings. She provides valuable support and feedback to these educators to which they have been very appreciative. “After all,” she says, “It’s all about the kids.” She is a great educator and a respected leader in the community.
